What Does a Medical Assistant Do?

MAs assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician and a nurse practitioner. They interview patients, measure vital signs, and records information on patient's medical record. MAs prepare treatment rooms and may be required to draw and collect blood samples as well as prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. MAs even administer oral medications or injections!

How Much Does a Medical Assistant Make?

In Georgia, on average, Medical Assistants make $18.00- $24.00 per hour or $36,800 - $49,920 annually

Enrollment Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older

  • High School Diploma or GED or Pass literacy exam with 75% or higher

  • Government-issued ID

  • Social Security Card

  • Proof of Hep B Vaccine

  • Clear Background Check (Wellstar Hospital Clinicals only)

  • Clear Drug Screen (Wellstar Hospital Clinicals only)

  • Proof of Flu vaccine (Wellstar Hospital Clinicals only)

  • Proof of MMR vaccine (Wellstar Hospital Clinicals only)

  • Proof of Varicella vaccine (Wellstar Hospital Clinicals only)

  • Negative TB Test/ PPD Test (Wellstar Hospital Clinicals only)

If you have a background concern, please let us know and different clinicals may be arranged. Students do NOT have to supply Wellstar requirements if they conduct labs onsite at the school.

Do I Need any Prior Medical Training?

No. Being a Certified Medical Assistant requires a high school diploma or GED.

  • Evening Class: M-Th (47 weeks)

  • M/W: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM in person

  • T/Th: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Remote group session over video conference

Ways to Pay

Pay Through H.E.R.O

$7,500

  • There is a minimum $500 deposit required.

  • Payments for the Course will be $1370 per month for 5 months.

  • Weekly payments will start the first week of the class.

  • Payments are subject to change if you put a larger deposit down.

Fortify

$7,500

  • There is a minimum $500 deposit required

  • A deposit of $500 will go directly to HERO Institute and $4,850 will be financed through Fortify at $271.94/month for 30 months.

  • Fortify will not run a credit check.

  •  Fortify has a 0.0999% interest rate.

  • Payments start 30 days after deposit is made.

  • Fortify will have a Financing Fee of $342.50

WIOA- Free Education

  • Must apply for funding in your county of residence noted on your state ID.

  • Must receive SNAP/TANF benefits OR received unemployment OR be unemployed OR be considered low income.

  • H.E.R.O is not responsible for your approval, but we collaborate with your local WorkSource office to start your education once you are approved for funding. Funding can take 4-6 weeks for approval if you qualify. See your local office information and apply HERE or call us for guidance 770-726-3577

  • WIOA will pay for the entire course and all the items required for the course.
