What Does a Patient Care Technician Do?

A Patient Care Technician works directly with patients and their families to complete medical tasks and ensure they receive quality care. Daily tasks include measuring and monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse etc.) or obtaining EKG’s signal, obtain blood and other fluid samples, assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments, assist patients with everyday needs such as personal hygiene, using the restroom and grooming. They also keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized and provide appropriate emotional support to patients. Patient Care Technicians usually work in a wide range of facilities which include: hospital, assisted living facilities, home health, labs, and doctors offices. 

How Much Does a Patient Care Technician Make?

The average Patient Care Technician salary in Georgia is $33,814 as of September 26, 2022, but the range typically falls between $29,462 and $37,810. Salary ranges can vary widely depending on the city and many other important factors, including education, certifications, additional skills.

Do I Need any Prior Medical Training?

No. Being a Certified Patient Care Technician only requires a high school diploma or GED.

  • 300 Clock hours

  • 180 hours of in-person theory

  • 120 hours of lab

  • Day Class: M-Th (12.5 weeks)

  • M-Th: 9:00am-4:00pm in person

  • Evening Class: M-Th (19 weeks)

  • M-Th: 5:00pm-9:00pm in person

Online Hybrid Course Hours & Times

  • 300 Clock hours

  • M/W: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM in person

  • T/Th: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Remote group session over video conference

  • Evening Class: M-Th (19 weeks)

  • M/W: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM in person

  • T/Th: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Remote group session over video conference

Ways to Pay

Pay Through H.E.R.O

$3,450

  • There is a minimum $500 deposit required

  •  Payments for the DAY COURSE will be $245.83 per week for 12 weeks

  • Payments for the EVENING COURSE will be $155.26 per week for 19 weeks.

  • Weekly payments will start the first week of class.

  • Payments are subject to change if you put a larger deposit down.

Fortify

$3,450 + Interest & Fees 

  • A deposit of $400 will go directly to HERO Institute and $3,050 will be financed through Fortify at $260.93/month for 13 months.

  • Fortify will not run a credit check.

  • Payments start 30 days after deposit is made.

  • Fortify will have a Financing Fee of $152. 50

  • Fortify has a 0.0999% interest rate.

  • Payments start 30 days after deposit is made.

WIOA- Free Education – COMING SOON- Nov 2026

  • Must apply for funding in your county of residence noted on your state ID.

  • Must receive SNAP/TANF benefits OR received unemployment OR be unemployed OR be considered low income.

  • H.E.R.O is not responsible for your approval, but we collaborate with your local WorkSource office to start your education once you are approved for funding.
